Oh, and you can read more about James Howe if you are interested. I love knowing a little bit about the author of the books that we love. Adds another dimension to our reading.

A great series authored by the family dog, Harold. Really funny story about how Bunnicula comes to live with the family (he is found in the movie theater during a showing of Dracula). The family cat, Chester, becomes convinced that Bunnicula is really a vampire bunny because he sleeps during the day and vegetables are mysteriously sucked dry of all their juices during the night. Ahh...the horror!

Lovable, funny characters and one of the funniest scenes ever in children’s literature (when Chester tries to take out Bunnicula with a steak (instead of a stake)). I especially love the relationship between Harold and Chester (and in later books the addition of the adorable dachshund puppy, Howie). They get on each others nerves at times, but there is a strong affection there that is so sweet to read about.

I read this series first with Jason when he was around 5 or 6 and loved it. And enjoyed it even more the second time around last year with Kyle when he was 7 (and more often than not, Jason wound up joining us to re-listen as well). If you have child who is an animal lover or one who appreciates good writing, strong, endearing characters and lots of laugh-out-loud humor, this is the book for you.
