Welcome!

I am a liberal-minded homeschool mom who is constantly trying to find that elusive state of balance in my life while enjoying my two energetic, yet vastly different boys.

Our wisdom is all mixed up with what we call our neurosis. Our brilliance, our juiciness, our spiciness, is all mixed up with our craziness and our confusion, therefore it doesn’t do any good to try to get rid of our so-called negative aspects, because in that process we also get rid of our basic wonderfulness.

Sometimes It Is The Little Changes

I recently bought a new doormat for my front door. It is made from recycled rubber tires and feels very solid under my feet. For whatever reason, I absolutely love it - maybe it is the colors or the over-large size.

Whatever it is, I smile each time I see it. Even makes me think that I should get around to re-painting the door where the puppies have scratched it up.

It is nothing really that special and not a major change. But I like it.

I also got a new doormat for the door from the garage into the house (which is nothing quite so pretty as the front door, so I will just show you the mat.)

The garage door is the one we use most often and again, it brings a smile to my face when I see it. Which is everyday.

Sometimes just a little change can make an impact. And a few extra smiles each day are always a good thing.

Definitely! I cleaned out the bathroom vanity cabinet a few weeks ago for the first time in 4 years; now I smile each time I open the cabinet doors. A vase of flowers on my table can do the trick, too.

I like both of those mats a lot! I hope I can find some great ones like that when I get around to shopping for them. They're on our list of things we need for the house as we've been redecorating this year.

Michele, I got them from Bed, Bath and Beyond (at 20% off even). They had a whole host of designs. Since they are rubber, they are heavy and won't move around, plus they are easy to clean...just hose them off. Yet they are still soft and warm. I really like them.

I love those mats! And I think you're right, little changes can go a long way. I tidied up the books on one of our bookshelves and it really changed the look of that room.

Hi Michelle,
I enjoy your blog and with today's entry, I just had to write and tell you about my new app for parents/teachers/caregivers - anyone dealing with kids - offering a daily creative activity based on The Theory of Multiple Intelligences. It is called HOORAY FOR TODAY! and just as you mention that a few extra smiles are great every day - they are especially great when aimed at your kids! Please take a look at the app - and please tell your friends, wonderful, parents who are home-schooling their kids! I admire you all.

Here is the site - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hooray-for-today!/id469517425?mt=8
I'd love some feedback from you and your friends. Also, I've just started a Facebook page - search under 'Loretta Saff Facebook Hooray for Today.
Thanks!
Loretta

I agree that even small changes can make a huge difference. We've been on such a tight budget over the past few years that I was thrilled to splurge on a soft soap from Trader Joe's that smells heavenly and comes in a pretty container! lol It makes me happy every time I use it.

I love these door mats too!

I enjoyed looking at your blog. I too have a story of change, a vast change...how the homeschool movement got jump-started back in 1970. It is a story of a mother's courage under intense odds, of the nation's mothers and fathers rallying support, of the kids who endured removal from home and loss of friends. You can find a shortened version of this story at http://www.examiner.com/spiritual-perspectives-in-baltimore/in-the-face-of-adversity-the-story-behind-the-home-schooling-movement.

I know this story well because it happened to me, and the brave woman was my mother.

I hope you will read it. I also hope you will share the story with all homeschoolers.

I really, really like the designs of those doormats! I think I want to go look at my Bed, Bath & Beyond to see if I can find some cool ones for us to use. Thanks for inspiring me :-)
